“As part of my role as Head of Technology and Digital at Make‑A‑Wish UK, a key focus for my team is exploring how digital, data and emerging technologies can improve efficiency and decision‑making, so more organisational capacity and resource can be directed towards granting wishes. Through the Digital Charter Community, I’ve been spending time exploring Vibe Coding and practical applications of AI in everyday leadership and management contexts. As a small proof of concept, I built a digital model of my departmental budget to support scenario planning around future licence cost increases. Using AI‑assisted analysis on the underlying data helped surface patterns and potential cost variances that would have been time‑consuming to identify manually. One of these indicated a potential £5,000 variance following a change from card renewal to invoicing, highlighting an area suitable for further review. While modest in scale, this kind of exploratory work reflects how we approach innovation: practical, proportionate, and focused on strengthening insight, forecasting and stewardship over time. Taken together, these improvements help free up time, funding and attention so the organisation can focus on delivering more wishes to children when they need them most. I’ve valued the Digital Charter Community as a space for hands‑on learning and shared experimentation, turning curiosity into tangible insight rather than innovation for its own sake.
